Abstract

I will discuss functioning of Ca2+ signalling mechanisms (including Ca2+ release from intracellular stores and store-operated Ca2+ entry) in pancreatic acinar cells and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) cells.  Particular attention will be given to signalling-metabolism coupling and to properties of junctional complexes between the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) and the plasma membrane (PM). I will describe both structure and dynamics (formation and dissolution) of ER-PM junctions. The putative pathophysiological roles of Ca2+ signalling in acute pancreatitis and PDAC will be also discussed.
